Lambeth parking suspension: the fee before the fee

Council and TfL figures on this page are the authorities' own charges, read from their websites on the dates listed under Sources. Fees change — most councils revise theirs each April — so check the authority's page, or ask us, before relying on any figure.

A Lambeth parking suspension starts with a £98.83 administration fee, before a single bay has been held. On top of that the space charge is £57.55 a day, and if you apply with less than ten days to go Lambeth adds a short-notice charge that can reach £156.31. That makes a late one-day booking in Lambeth roughly four times the cost of the same booking in Bromley. These are the council's 2026/27 charges.

The short version

  • £98.83 administration fee, before any space charge.
  • £57.55 a space per day. A half day is £34.57.
  • Six days or longer adds an £8.20 long-duration surcharge.
  • Applying with 6 to 9 days' notice adds £68.77. With 2 to 5 days it adds £156.31.
  • A one-day, one-space booking made in good time is about £156.38. Booked at four days' notice it is about £312.69.

The comparison across every borough we track is in what every borough charges.

Read from Lambeth's own parking suspension charges page on 18 September 2026, where they are published as the 2026/27 charges.

Where Lambeth differs from its neighbours. Southwark's admin fee is £93 and Bromley's is £30, but neither charges you again for applying late. Lambeth does, and the express charge is larger than its own administration fee. In Lambeth, the date you apply changes the price more than the length of the booking does.

What a late application actually costs

Two identical bookings, one space for one day, on Lambeth's published figures:

Ten or more days ahead£98.83£57.55£156.38
Four days ahead£98.83£156.31£57.55£312.69

Applying six days late doubles it. That is the single most useful thing to know about moving in Lambeth, and it is the reason we ask for your completion date before we talk about anything else.

What Lambeth's charges page does not say

Two things, and I would rather say so than fill them in:

  • The notice period is not stated on the charges page. The short-notice bands imply the council expects ten or more days, but that is an inference from the pricing rather than a published deadline. Check Lambeth's suspension pages, or ask us and we will check before you apply.
  • Whether a house move qualifies for any concession is not stated there either. Camden waives the first-day space charge for house moves; nothing on Lambeth's charges page says it does the same. Assume you pay the full amount unless the council tells you otherwise.

Lambeth also states that any break in a suspension is treated as a new request, with a new administration fee. For a move spread over two non-consecutive days, that is £98.83 twice.

Where in Lambeth this bites

Lambeth runs from Waterloo and the South Bank down through Kennington, Brixton and Clapham to Streatham, and controlled parking covers most of it with long enforcement hours. This is not a borough with much unrestricted kerb. The practical consequence is that a van usually has nowhere legal to stand without a suspension, and the terraces mean a long carry if it ends up round the corner.

Two separate things to check before the date is fixed: whether either address sits on a red route, because TfL sells no suspension on one at any price; and whether the property is on an estate, where access is often controlled by the managing agent rather than the council.

Common questions

Why is Lambeth so much more expensive than Bromley? Different councils, different fee structures, and no obligation on either to match the other. Bromley charges £30 to administer an application; Lambeth charges £98.83 and can add £156.31 for a late one.

Is the half-day rate worth using? If the job genuinely finishes inside half a day, yes — it saves £22.98. Most two-bedroom moves do not, and an expired suspension is worse than a longer one.

Can I avoid the express charge? Only by applying earlier. It is a charge for processing at short notice, not for the bay, so nothing about the move itself changes it.

Do I need one at both ends? Wherever the street is controlled, yes. In Lambeth that is most streets, and each address is its own application with its own administration fee.

Will you apply for it for me? We will tell you exactly what it will cost and what notice to give, and we pass the council's fee on at cost. The application is in the resident's or occupier's name.
