Haringey parking suspension: £360, two weeks, and the windscreen sign

Facts checked 17 August 2026Parking and permits

Council and TfL figures on this page are the authorities' own charges, read from their websites on the dates listed under Sources. Fees change — most councils revise theirs each April — so check the authority's page, or ask us, before relying on any figure.

A Haringey parking suspension has the most expensive published first day of the six North London boroughs we track. The daily fee is £80 per single car space, plus a £280 administration fee — so one bay for one day is £360, and the admin fee is charged again for every separate road. Haringey wants at least 2 weeks' notice. And there is a rule almost nobody knows: the van must show a printed company-logo sign in the windscreen, or it can be ticketed in the bay you just paid for.

The short version

  • One bay, one day: £360. That is £280 of administration plus £80 a space, and the admin repeats per road.
  • Notice: at least 2 weeks before the suspension starts.
  • The suspension only applies during the zone's CPZ hours. In a two-hour zone, that is two hours of protection a day.
  • Vehicles in the suspended bay need a printed sign showing the company logo — a handwritten note does not count.
  • The £30 permission to park permit is void on Spurs event days in the event-day zones.

Haringey sits at the top of the six-borough price table — the comparison is in what every borough charges.

What a Haringey parking suspension costs

Removals is one of Haringey's listed reasons for a suspension, alongside building works, filming, utility works, tree maintenance and funerals. Only funerals are free. The fees:

ItemCharge
Administration, per suspension, per road£280
Each single car space, per day£80
One bay for one day£360
Cancellation, application processed£75
Cancellation, boards already up£145

The admin fee is 78% of a one-day bill, and it repeats: "If you need a suspension for more than 1 road, you must apply separately. An administration fee applies for each suspension." Changes must go by email at least 8 working days before the start. Suspensions run up to 6 months; beyond that, Haringey suggests a Traffic Management Order may cost less.

For scale: the same one-day house move is £66.66 in Camden, and the two boroughs touch. That is a 5.4 times spread for identical work.

The suspension only works during CPZ hours

Haringey states it plainly: "Suspensions only apply during the hours of the controlled parking zone (CPZ) the parking bay is in. Check the CPZ time for your location before applying." This is the exact opposite of Hackney, where the charge applies regardless of zone hours.

Haringey's zones have no single pattern. Some are short anti-commuter windows: Bounds Green runs 10am to 12 noon, Alexandra Palace 12 noon to 2pm, Crouch End A 10am to 12 noon while Crouch End B runs 2pm to 4pm. Others run long: Wood Green Inner Zone is 8am to 10pm, Monday to Sunday; Muswell Hill is 11am to 1pm, Monday to Sunday.

In a zone that runs 11am to 1pm, your £360 buys two protected hours a day

Outside those hours the bay is ordinary kerb, and anyone may park in it. If you need protection outside zone hours, Haringey's own advice is to contact its network management team on 020 8489 1300 or nrswa@haringey.gov.uk before applying.

One more money-saver from Haringey's own page: some zones do not operate at weekends, so if your suspension spans two weeks, "please select the actual days you need the suspension for" rather than paying for days when no restriction runs.

The windscreen sign rule

Haringey's enforcement page carries the rule that catches paid-up movers: "Any vehicles parked in a suspended bay must have a sign in the windscreen showing your company logo. This cannot be a handwritten note." Without it, the enforcement officer has no way to tell your van from an intruder, and a PCN can land in the bay you paid £360 for.

The rest of enforcement follows the pattern every borough shares — the burden is on you:

  • Warning notices go up around 7 days before the start, but Haringey "cannot guarantee the area will be kept clear".
  • If a vehicle is in your bay, "it is your responsibility to contact us and request enforcement", and removal is not guaranteed.
  • Enforcement: 020 8489 2102. Car pound: 0330 135 8949, at 83 Bilton Way, Enfield EN3 7ER.

The £30 permit, and the Spurs blackout

Haringey's cheaper product is not called a dispensation — it is a "permission to park permit", £30 a day, no refunds. It covers resident and shared-use bays and permit holder bays, but not pay-by-phone-only bays. And it reserves nothing: it stops the ticket, not the neighbour. The difference is the subject of suspension vs dispensation.

The permit is void on event days in the event-day CPZs: the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium zone, Tottenham Hale North and Tower Gardens

Book a move near the stadium without checking the fixture list and the £30 protects nothing that day. Spurs event days also stretch nine ordinary zones to 8am–8.30pm weekdays and 8am–8pm at weekends.

Moving near a school in term time?

Haringey enforces its School Streets with ANPR, and driving in costs £160, reduced to £80 within 14 days — the only borough of the six that publishes a School Street figure. Holding a parking permit or an LTN exemption does not entitle you to drive in, and home deliveries are told to avoid the hours. Most schemes run in short morning and afternoon windows; plan the van's arrival around them.

If your street is a red route — Seven Sisters Road runs through Haringey and is TfL's — the council cannot help at all: "We do not give suspensions for red routes." See moving house where the council cannot help.

Questions we get about Haringey parking

Why is Haringey so much more expensive than the boroughs next door?

The £280 administration fee, charged per suspension per road, is most of the bill. Camden charges £66.66 of admin and waives its space charge for house moves; Haringey offers no removals concession — only funerals are free.

Do we need two applications for two roads?

Yes, and two admin fees. Haringey can suspend any number of bays on one road under one application, but a second road is a second application and another £280.

Does the suspension protect the bay in the evening?

Only if the zone's controlled hours run then. Suspensions apply during CPZ hours only. For anything outside them, contact the network management team before you apply.

What if someone parks in the bay anyway?

Ring 020 8489 2102 and ask for enforcement — it is your responsibility to ask, and removal is not guaranteed. Make sure your own van shows the printed logo sign, or it can be ticketed too.
