Removals in North London, from terrace conversions to the hills

   The half-landing turn

   The standard conversion from Barnsbury (N1) to Kentish Town (NW5) puts a flat above a flat behind one shared front door. Halfway up there is a tight return — the most common reason a sofa that came in will not go out again. Measure it, measure your widest piece of furniture, and send us both numbers in centimetres.

   Hills that change how the van sits

   Highgate (N6), Muswell Hill (N10), Crouch End (N8) and the Archway (N19) slopes are genuine gradients. A van on a hill is positioned and loaded differently, and a trolley run that is easy on level ground is slow work uphill. Mention which end of the hill you are on when you make your enquiry.

   Loft rooms come down last and take longest

   A converted loft is usually reached by a steep fixed staircase with very little headroom at the top. Everything up there comes down item by item, and it is routinely the longest hour of the day. Tell us if either end of the removal involves one.

   Two different parking worlds

   Islington and Camden are densely controlled parking, where a reserved bay is worth organising weeks ahead. Out in Finchley (N3) and Whetstone (N20) it is mostly driveways, and Barnet's £51.90-a-day dispensation needs only two working days' notice (checked 18 August 2026). The same removal is priced differently at each end.

   One postcode's parking hours are not the next one's

   Muswell Hill (N10) is controlled 11am to 1pm, seven days a week, while Wood Green (N22) runs 8am to 10pm, seven days. Parts of Stamford Hill (N16) are restricted for two hours on weekday mornings. Camden publishes no borough-wide list and warns against assuming a pattern. Every zone here was verified on its council's own pages, 17 August 2026.

   School Street cameras, twice a day in term time

   ANPR cameras close the streets outside many schools on term-time weekdays. Hackney's zones operate 8.30 to 9.30am and 3 to 4pm; in De Beauvoir that includes Enfield Road and Hertford Road. Haringey runs one at Somerset Road that never switches off. No borough here exempts removals vehicles, and Haringey's penalty is £160 (checked 17 August 2026).

   Some kerbs belong to TfL, not the council

   The A1 through Archway and the A406 North Circular belong to TfL, and so does Seven Sisters Road. That is the whole stretch from Tottenham High Road to Camden Town, past Finsbury Park. TfL sells no suspensions at any price; its £48-a-day dispensation requires six working days, and no late application exists on a red line (TfL's own pages, August 2026).

   Matchdays rewrite the parking rules

   On Emirates event days Islington adds restrictions across nine zones around Highbury (N5) and Holloway (N7), including Sunday afternoons. Around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Haringey's event-day zones switch on and its £30 daily permit is not valid at all (checked 17 August 2026). If your date coincides with a fixture, we plan around it.

Suspending one parking bay for one day of a domestic move.

Sources: each council's own parking pages and Transport for London. Figures marked archived came from a capture of the authority's own page, because that host blocks automated access. These fees change every April, and Hackney's in late May, so if a date looks old, ring the council before you book. The borough guides carry every fee, rule and exception in full.

• Camden is five times cheaper than Haringey

  The same one-day job is £66.66 in Camden and £360 in Haringey, and the two boroughs touch. A move booked at three days' notice in Camden costs £66.66 where building works would cost £655.36.

• In Islington the livery is worth money

  A vehicle showing the company name can load on a single yellow or a resident bay for as long as the job takes, provided loading never stops. A plain white hire van gets 40 minutes at a time after 11am. Same street, same day, different rules.

• Haringey will still ticket a bay you paid for

  A vehicle in a suspended bay must show a printed sign with the company logo in the windscreen. A handwritten note does not count. You can pay £360 and still collect a penalty in your own suspension.

We are in a first-floor conversion with a shared front door. Is that a problem?

It is the single most common North London removal there is. Three things matter: the width of the communal hallway, the turn on the staircase, and whether the downstairs neighbour's door opens into our carrying space. All three are checked at the survey, which is usually a ten-minute video call.

Are you insured for a North London move?

We answer that in writing, not with a badge on a website. Ask when you enquire, and the written quotation will set out the insurance position for your move before you commit to anything. That way you are relying on a document you can keep, rather than a line of marketing.

Can you move a studio flat, or is that too small a job?

No removal is too small to survey. A studio in Islington (N1), Holloway (N7) or Camden Town (NW1) faces the same staircase, kerb and parking questions as a full house. The volume is smaller; the access considerations are identical. Small moves receive a short video survey and a written quotation like everything else.

Do you cover Hornsey and Crouch End (N8)?

Yes, and one detail matters. Haringey divides Crouch End into zones with different controlled hours: one side operates 10am to noon, the other 2 to 4pm (checked 17 August 2026). Which side of that boundary you live on determines when the van should arrive. Give us the street name when you enquire and we will organise the timing around it.

Do you do removals in Highgate (N6)?

Yes — Highgate moves are shaped by the gradient and by parking that varies street by street. Most of the Highgate Station zone is controlled 10am to noon on weekdays. Priory Gardens is the exception at 8.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday (Haringey's own list, checked 17 August 2026). We read the zone plate for your street before confirming an arrival time.

Anything we should know about moving in Stoke Newington (N16)?

Two practical things are worth knowing. Hackney's own website publishes two different sets of hours for the Stoke Newington zone, so trust the plate at the entrance to your street instead. And a Hackney dispensation cannot legally cover a Luton van, because the height cap is 2.27 metres. Holding the bay outside means arranging a suspension (checked 17 August 2026).

How much notice do we need to reserve parking for the move?

That depends entirely on which authority owns your kerb. Hackney wants 7 working days, Barnet 7 calendar days, Enfield 10 working days, Islington 14 days, Haringey 2 weeks and Camden 17 days (each council's own pages, checked 17 and 18 August 2026). A cross-borough move requires two separate applications and runs on the longer of the two clocks. The full fees and conditions are set out in our borough guides.

Will ULEZ or the Congestion Charge be added to our bill?

Only where one genuinely applies, and then at cost, itemised on the quotation where you can see it. ULEZ operates London-wide around the clock, while the Congestion Charge is central only, 7am to 6pm on weekdays and noon to 6pm at weekends. Most North London moves never enter it (TfL, checked August 2026).

Do you cover Finchley (N3), Whetstone (N20) and New Southgate (N11)?

Yes, together with the rest of Barnet and Enfield, and access out there is mostly driveways, which usually translates into an easier day. One quirk: Barnet cannot suspend a bay it has converted into a parklet, and Ballards Lane in Finchley appears on its own published list. Moves to those parades therefore need a different parking arrangement (checked 18 August 2026).

Do you cover Seven Sisters and South Tottenham (N15)?

Yes — along with Finsbury Park (N4) next door. Seven Sisters Road itself is a TfL red route, where no suspension exists at any price. Haringey's event-day zones switch on for Spurs fixtures and the £30 daily permit stops being valid (checked 17 August 2026), so we position the van around both.
